View of multiple Amsterdam canal bridges aligned in a single perspective

Seeing bridges from a boat is wonderful – but some of the best angles are from the canal banks themselves.

Start: near the Reguliersgracht & Herengracht

After your cruise, make your way towards the Reguliersgracht where it crosses the Herengracht.

  • This area hosts the famous multi-bridge view.
  • You can align several archways into a single perspective.

Photo idea:

  • Stand slightly off-centre on the bridge and aim your camera along the canal to capture arches receding into the distance.

Next: Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht

Walk parallel to your cruise route:

  • Cross bridges at regular intervals.
  • Look back after crossing – some of the best views are over your shoulder.
  • Notice how tree lines and lampposts frame the water.

Evening variation

Return at dusk:

  • Bridge lights reflect on the water.
  • Long exposures (even with a phone) create light trails from bikes and boats.
  • The same spots feel completely different than by day.

Simple 60–90 minute loop

text Start: Reguliersgracht / Herengracht ↓ Walk along Herengracht → cross to Keizersgracht ↓ Continue towards Prinsengracht and back via small side streets ↓ End near a café or brown bar for a drink

Bottom line

A short bridges photo walk extends the magic of your canal cruise.

You’ll recognise viewpoints from the boat, then capture them calmly from solid ground.
